Staying In The Spiritual Sweet Spot

In November’s The Movement, I shared a little bit about what I’m calling the spiritual sweet spot. It’s turning within and connecting with your higher self. You are centered and quiet. It’s calm but dynamic at the same time. In the sweet spot, you tune out all the noise of the outside world and tune in to your inner truth. You have all the answers you need within you and the sweet spot makes it easier to access those answers without interference from the ego and the world outside of you. It’s also easier to tune in to your spirit team.

When I’m in my sweet spot, life and things become clearer to me. I feel exhilarated! At times (in the safety and quiet of my home), I can lose sense of my physical body and surroundings. When I finally open my eyes again, there’s a moment of ‘oh yeah, I’m in this room’. Your spiritual sweet spot is a powerful place because you can really get your manifesting groove on here! And the longer you can stay in it, the more powerful it is!

Since I wrote about the sweet spot, I’ve been talking about it more with others. The thing I’m still working out and what others have been asking about is how to stay in it. It’s one thing to marinate in the sweet spot in the comfort of your home where you can focus exclusively on it. What about when you have to go to work, to school, out for errands or events… live your life?

Being in the sweet spot is being in a space of love and joy. So quite simply, to stay in it, surround yourself with that which brings you love and joy. Sounds easy, huh? We live in a world full of distractions and contrasts though, where your attention can be pulled in different directions. It’s easy to get caught up in your head with all the thoughts going through it. It’s in that space – on autopilot – that you lose track of how you feel, both physically and emotionally. Turn off autopilot and get out of your head! Be in the moment and allow yourself to feel as you go through your day. This will take some practice. Be patient and gentle with yourself… then stack the deck in your favor!

How exactly do you surround yourself with love and joy? Start with the senses by taking a look around you and asking “how do I feel with this or that?”. We are creatures of habit. When we get comfortable with something, we tend to stick to it, sometimes past it’s point of positive effectiveness (there’s that autopilot again!). So keep asking if you feel better, neutral or worse with it. Be selective, this is your sweet spot we’re talking about here! Shift or change anything that is neutral or feels like it’s dragging you down! Here’s some ideas to get you started:

  • What you listen to – this applies to what you’re actively listening to and what you hear in the background: music, talk radio, the TV, conversations/activity around you, sounds if you have the windows open, even silence.
  • What you watch – TV, movies, the news. It’s not only what you watch but when you watch, especially when you start and end your day.
  • What you see – indoors and outdoors; at home, work, school or where you spend a lot of time; colors; clutter or organization; clean or dirty, art, décor, etc.
  • What you smell – infusing your space with aromas that are pleasing to you, like essential oils and aromatherapy.
  • What you touch – fabric is something I notice – clothes, sheets, blankets, etc. – and how it feels on my skin.
  • What you read – this is actually funny, but I don’t read suspense books because I physically feel the tension building. It affects my mood and body so much that I have actually skipped ahead to find out what happens, then go back where I left off! It even happened to me in the Harry Potter series!
  • Internet and social media – you can find it all here, the good, the bad and the ugly! Make them work for you, not against you!

As you master these, you’ll naturally flow into looking at other areas, like your words, thoughts, actions, situations in your life and relationships. Start with what’s easiest for you and take it one step at a time. Break it down and try putting your attention on one thing at a time, day or week, whatever feels comfortable for you! As with anything, it can take time to incorporate something new into your life. Be gentle and patient with yourself in this period of adjustment as you let go of the old to make room for the new. You’ll make it through any growing pains and in the end stay in your sweet spot longer! Feel the energy of that thought! Pretty empowering, huh?!
